Old style blue police box returned to Harrogate to promote campaign

6 April 2013

An old style blue police box returned to Harrogate’s streets as the Harrogate District Community Partnership used it to promote their latest campaign.

See it – Report it

But who should I report it to? is the question the Partnership hears from a lot of people.

The first reaction is to call the police and this is correct if you are reporting anti-social behaviour that is linked to criminal activity but much anti-social behaviour is not linked to criminal activity such as noise, fly tipping, littering, dog fouling and some parking issues. These are issues for the local council.

Superintendent Aubrey Smith, Vice-Chair of the Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership said:

Reporting concerns to the responsible authorities is key to the way we all respond to the public. Anything that helps people understand who deals with what speeds up the delivery of responses. North Yorkshire Police see the use of a police call box as a fun way to attract people of all ages in the Harrogate district to speak to the partners who can help them look after themselves and their property.

The new campaign See it – Report it lists the types of anti-social behaviour that cause concern in our communities and shows which authority you should report it to.

If you see anti-social behaviour and want something done about it then all you have to do is report it.

The campaign was launched on Thursday 4 April in Harrogate town centre at Members of the Harrogate District Community Safety Partnership offering advice to people about reporting anti-social behaviour and giving out leaflets that list the contact numbers to report the various types of anti-social behaviour.

  • North Yorkshire Police received 3807 reports of anti-social behaviour between 1 April 2012 and 1 January 2013.
  • North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with 48 incidents in the same period.

The Community Safety Partnership has produced an information leaflet available from www.saferharrogate.org.uk or you can email the team on communitysafety@harrogate.gov.uk
