Detectives investigating a serious sexual assault at The Wynd in Bedale (Friday 18 February 2011) have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the incident.
The arrest follows two separate incidents.
The first complaint, made by a girl aged in her early teens, relates to an alleged incident about four weeks ago in the area of the leisure centre. Although precise details are still being assessed, relevant events are believed to have been on or after Monday 24 January 2011, at some time between 5pm and 6pm.
The second incident involved a woman in her early 20s who was reportedly attacked by an unknown male near the Wynd between 12 midnight and 2am on Friday 18 February 2011, whilst on a night out with friends.
The man, from the Huddersfield area, was brought into custody on Thursday 3 March. Following questioning he was released on conditional police bail pending further investigation.
Enquiries remain ongoing into an unconnected report of serious sexual assault in Bedale which occurred in the area of the leisure centre on or after Monday 24 January 2011, at some time between 5pm and 6pm.
Officers would like to reassure residents in Bedale that everything if being done to investigate the complaints and also provide a visible presence to reduce any concerns or fears.
