It was a big difference playing on a beautiful sunny morning, rather than the dour weather we have endured for well over two and a half months.
Allstars found themselves away to Ilkley U13’s in the next round of the Main League Cup. Ilkley, who are flying high in fourth spot of the A League started brightly and were 1 up within 5 minutes. Allstars heads didn’t go down and the boys saw three or four chances go begging. The game too’d and fro’d with both sides playing some good football and the Referee let the game flow perfectly. Half time arrived to see honours even through a Charlie Wynne goal.
The Second Half started the same as the first with Ilkley shading the possession and Ilkley going 3-1 up. Midway through the second half, Allstars had a penalty awarded and Josh Quinn stepped up to calmly convert his third of the season. The final score was 6-2 to Ilkley which doesn’t really give a true reflection of the game; Allstars dominated the final 15 minutes of each half but were unable to score. Shots scraped the post and one effort was put over from right under the crossbar. MOM could have been awarded to the entire defence, Jake Jones putting in a great performance but for his tireless running MOM was awarded to Maccer who was “out on his feet” at the end of the game.
On another day, if the attempts had indeed hit the target, the final score would have been very different; the Ilkley management team admitted this and complimented the team and their footballing style.
