Cycle security urged following Pateley Bridge theft

21 December 2012

Police are appealing for information after a mountain bike was stolen from a property in Pateley Bridge.

The black and white Cannondale SL5 cycle was taken from the yard of a house in King Street overnight between Thursday 20th and Friday 21st December 2012.

The bike was left insecure inside the owner’s rear yard which backs onto open space. Police are asking anyone in the area to contact them if they saw or heard anything suspicious in the area.

Officers are also appealing to anyone who has seen the cycle being ridden since last night or who knows of its current whereabouts to contact them.

PC Bill Hickson of Pateley Bridge Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:

A number of cycles previously stolen from the town have been found locally. Pateley is small town and it’s likely the someone local has important information which could assist our investigation.

I am also urging cycle owners to take adequate security measures. Please lock your cycle away when it’s not in use. If you don’t have any suitable outbuildings, make a space inside your house. Or, at the very least, invest in secure locks and chains and cover it up so it’s hidden from view. Your local bike shop will be able to advise on security and there is also a wealth of info on the internet, including video clips of how to make an ordinary shed more secure.

Please also consider security marking so that if the cycle is found, it can be reunited with its rightful owner quickly.
