Engage Mutual launches new charity policy

13 December 2012

Julia-Elliott-1Engage Mutual has launched a charity policy which recognises staff for their participation in voluntary and fundraising initiatives.

The Harrogate-based mutual, which has a strong affinity with charitable and community activity, has introduced a policy whereby staff who participate in charity or community activities during their own time can reclaim up to two days from their employer.

Alongside this, Engage Mutual can provide match funding for staff that have raised money for a good cause. The mutual will consider matching money raised by staff up to £500 to boost the amount raised.

Speaking of the policy Steve Barry, HR & Learning Director at Engage Mutual, said:

As a mutual organisation we have a strong commitment to charity and as such we want to encourage our staff to take part in as many charitable activities as possible.

Time banking and match funding are just two ways of recognising the considerable efforts Engage Mutual employees go to in order to help good causes.

Website content manager and copywriter Sally Brown and business change manager Julia Elliott at the Mutual have already benefited from this innovative policy.

Sally spent time volunteering with the Conservation Trust in Leeds helping to manage and maintain local woodland and open space in the city, and as a result she can reclaim her two days.

Julia completed the Great North Run for Sue Ryder in September, raising £200 in the process. Her sponsorship money doubled when it was matched by her employer.

Engage Mutual supports a number of community and charitable activities through its engage with your club and engage with your community initiatives, as well as sponsoring Harrogate-based Saint Michael’s and the Steve Prescott Foundation.
