York man recalled to prison – do you know where Adrian Lewis is?

8 December 2012

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for information to help trace a wanted man from York.

Adrian Paul Lewis, 38, whose last known address was Tostig Avenue in the Acomb area of the city, has had his prison release licence revoked by the Ministry for Justice for alleged further offending.

Lewis was originally sentenced to 18 months in prison on 4 November 2011 for burglary and criminal damage which occurred on 14 August 2011.

Following his early release on licence, he has been arrested and charged on several occasions for alleged thefts from shops and fraud by false representation regarding a prescription. He was due to appear at York Magistrates’ Court on 20 and 21 December 2012.

Lewis has also failed to attend compulsory meetings with the Probation Service.

Due to his behaviour, he is now subject to a fixed 28 day recall to prison and a warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police officers have been conducting extensive enquiries in and around York to locate Lewis. Searches are also being carried out in Scarborough where he is known to visit.

Members of the public are asked to assist by keeping an eye out for him and to report any sightings.

He is described as white, short grey hair, 5ft 4in tall, medium build with brown eyes.

Superintendent Lisa Winward, the York Safer Neighbourhood Commander, said:

Adrian Lewis knows that he is wanted by the police but is blatantly trying to avoid arrest.

It is time that he faced up to the consequences of his actions and was returned to prison.

If anyone knows of his whereabouts or recognises a man matching his description, please contact the police as soon as possible.
