Residents of the North Yorkshire village of Killinghall near Harrogate are to receive a boost to their water quality supplies as Yorkshire Water begins work to upgrade more than 100 meters of ageing water pipe in the area.
The £600,000 project, which will begin next week (w/c 26 November) for four weeks, will see 120 metres of 1950’s water pipe relined to reduce the risks of bursts and given a thorough clean to further boost the quality of water delivered to the hundreds of residents in the village.
Engineering specialists Balfour Beatty Utility Solutions will be carrying out the work on Otley Road, near the junction with Grainbeck Lane and whilst normally work of this magnitude would require a full road closure, the team has worked hard to devise a plan which will see the road remaining open.
To ensure the safety of the onsite team and road users, it will be necessary to operate two-way traffic lights throughout the course of the project,

This work is vital to protect water supplies in Killinghall and ensure residents continue to receive some of the best drinking water anywhere in the world.
Of course, any work of this magnitude is always likely to result in some traffic disruption, but we want to reassure all concerned that we’ll continue to do everything we can to complete the work with the minimum amount of fuss.
The project is part of a £92 million the company is making across the region to improve the quality of drinking water – already some of the best in the world – and secure drinking water supplies.
The company will not need access to any properties, and has reminded customers to be wary of bogus callers.
