British Transport Police (BTP) officers are appealing for the public’s help to identify two men they would like to speak to in connection with an incident which took place on board the 19.08 York to Leeds service on Saturday, 6 October 2012.
PC Jon Holt, investigating the incident, said:
The victim, a 24-year-old woman from Wakefield, was travelling on the train with her mother when two men sat on the seats adjacent to them. The two men are then alleged to have begun shouting racial abuse directed at the woman.
Following the tirade, the victim and her mother were left feeling extremely vulnerable and feared for their safety. A number of other passengers on the service moved carriages due to the men’s unacceptable behaviour
The men left the train at Micklefield station.
Enquiries are ongoing and, officers would like to identify the two men in these photographs, which were captured on the victim’s phone, as they may be able to assist police with their investigation.
PC Holt added:
I would also like to appeal for anyone who was on board the train and saw or heard what happened to come forward and speak to us in confidence.
In particular, I’d like to hear from the passengers who witnessed the abuse and especially those who moved to another carriage to get away.
