Award winning Bilton Working Men’s Club

9 November 2012

Harrogate’s Bilton Working Men’s Club last night (8 November 2012) scooped the prestigious award for most improved club of the year at The Club Mirror Awards evening held at The Palace Hotel in Manchester.

The BBC’s celebrity sports presenter Chris Hollins hosted the Club Awards and Gala Dinner and presented the award to Club Entertainments Secretary Mike Dinsdale who attended the awards dinner on behalf of the Club.

This is a particular triumph for the Club which has recently embarked on a programme of regeneration to become an integral part of the Bilton Community and offer its facilities to a much wider audience. There are now regular dance classes, self-defence courses and many other community-based users of the Club and its impressive 400 capacity function room. The Club is also about to embark on a programme of regular live music from not only local bands, but recognised names and is also hosting a Foster’s Comedy Evening as part of its centenary celebrations in February next year.

Club Secretary John Wrightson said:

this award is recognition of the hard work put in by the staff and committee of the Club and of the great support of our 1,200 members. We are determined to make BWMC an important and popular part of the community and make it welcoming and appealing to people of all ages. We have shown that the old image of the Working Man’s Club is long gone and that this Club has something to offer everyone. We are so very proud.
