The Harrogate District has the most expensive taxi fares in North Yorkshire and they have now become more expensive following an increase agreed to by Harrogate Borough Council.
The Council set the maximum tariff and a number of operators chose to charge less or to operate a single tariff system – check with the individual operator.
The charges are:
Tariff 1 (Day) – First 1/4 mile to become £3.20 (was £3.10) then £1.82 per mile (was £1.75 per mile)
Tariff 2 (Night) – First 1/4 mile to become £4.80 (was £4.65) then £2.73 per mile (was £2.63 per mile)
Tariff 3 (Christmas and New Year) – First 1/4 mile to become £6.40 (was £6.20) then £3.64 per mile (was £3.51 per mile)
Waiting time cost has increased to £16.63 per hour from £15.99 per hour
No change to soilage charge at £80 and call out fee of £1
Extra charges – 50p extra per head can be charged for All passengers when carrying 5 or more.
Tariff 1 journey of 2 miles
For a Tariff 1 journey of 2 miles passengers will see an increase from £6.17 to £6.39
The same journey in York would cost £6.20 and £5.70 in Manchester.
The national average for for this journey is £5.46
During September, Harrogate was ranked 28th in the UK of the most expensive from 363 and with this changes they will have moved up the ranking.
For a Tariff 2 night-time journey of 2 miles – will be see an increase from £10.79 to £11.17
The changes will come into effect on Monday 12th November 2012.

Pretty ridiculous, i’ve moved away to Newcastle for University and usually get a taxi on a night out that costs around £3.40 for the entire journey.
