Good news delivered for Bilton Post Office

Harrogate and Knaresborough MP, Andrew Jones, and Bilton Councillor, Alec Brown, have welcomed news that Crab Lane Post Office in Bilton will become one of a new style of Post Office branches, meaning longer opening hours, a simplified face-to-face service and a make-over for the branch.

The changes are part of a three-year investment plan by the Post Office to install services offered from a till situated on the retail counter in an open plan environment instead of from a separate Post Office Counter.

At Crab Lane customers will benefit from longer opening hours with the overwhelming majority of Post Office transactions continuing to be available.

Welcoming this positive news for Bilton and the surrounding area Andrew said:

Longer opening times mean more opportunity to take advantage of services.

There was a time when the only news we heard was of Post Office closures, but this seems to have changed in Harrogate and Knaresborough with a brand new Post Office Local at Chain Lane in Knaresborough and these modern facilities and increased hours in Bilton.

This announcement coming hot on the heels of the reopening of Bilton Library is a real boost for the community.

Councillor Alec Brown said:

It’s marvellous news that we will be getting more hours for the Post Office service.

We all know about the valuable service the Post Office provides to our community and our new ‘open all hours’ Post Office is very welcome.

The Crab Lane Post Office will be closed on 6 September for refurbishment and is scheduled to reopen on 14 September of this year. The new opening hours will be Monday to Sunday from 6am to 10pm. The previous opening times were 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday (4pm closing on Wednesday) and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturday.
