Flaxby village, on the outskirts of Knaresborough, is the latest to mark this year’s Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with a tree-planting ceremony.
Around forty residents turned out as parish councillor Kath White planted the sapling on the village green and unveiled a stone with commemorative plaque.

The sapling, Prunus ‘Frilly Frock’, which grows to around four metres high after ten years, flowers in the early spring and is characterised by its variegated leaves in the summer and multi toned autumn tints.
Councillor White said:
The tree planting has given our small community an ideal opportunity to come together and mark an important milestone in our country’s rich history.
So many villagers helped to make the occasion special.
