A group of young disabled volunteers have secured £1000 to fund the opening of Knaresborough Sculpture Trail on Woodland Walk the event is to be held in the Taste Gallery at Henshaw’s Arts & Crafts Centre in Knaresborough on Wednesday 16 May and will be opened at 1pm by Andrew Willoughby the Mayor of Knaresborough.
The sculpture trail has been developed by young disabled people from Leonard Cheshire Disability’s Can Do Project with partners Yorkshire Driftwood and North Yorkshire Youth in association with professional artists and sculptors.
As part of the afternoon, attendees will also get the opportunity to see a sculpting demonstration by Knaresborough’s “secret” sculptor Tommy Craggs.
The Can Do volunteers submitted an application for capital to grant giver Keyfund and were successful.

We have learned new skills through being involved in the Keyfund process and we want to encourage others to join us. The open afternoon is a chance for anyone in the local community to come along and see what we are offering.
Heidi Mitchell Can Do volunteer chairperson, added:
This is the start of something bigger as we will be adding more sculptures over the next 12 months and working with the artists to create those ourselves.
We would like more disabled people to volunteer and get involved with the Can Do project. The initiative, has helped more than three thousand young people, aged 16-35, across the UK to secure volunteering placements across a wide variety of roles. These have included placements at schools, youth centres, drama workshops, arts projects and sports centres.
