Skipton police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision on the A65.
It occurred at 11.50am on Wednesday 2 May 2012, just outside Settle, heading towards Long Preston.
The collision involved two heavy goods vehicles. A BOC lorry, carrying gas cylinders, which was heading towards Settle and an articulated lorry travelling in the opposite direction.
The driver of the BOC lorry, a 45-year-old man from Oldham, was taken by air ambulance to Leeds General Infirmary with life changing injuries, where he remains in a critical but stable condition. The 52-year-old man from Aberdeen, driving the articulated lorry was taken by air ambulance to Preston Royal Infirmary, where he remains in a serious condition.
Some of the gas cylinders being carried by the BOC lorry were damaged when they were spilt from the lorry and hit the road. As a result the road was blocked while staff from BOC attended the scene to deal with the cylinders.
The road remained closed until just after 10pm Wednesday 2 May 2012.
Traffic Sergeant Pete Stringer, of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group, said:
I urge anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police as soon as possible. I would also like to speak to anyone who may have seen either of the lorries prior to the incident.
Anyone who can help the police with their enquiries is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, press option 2 and ask for Craven Roads Policing Group.
