A Harrogate Hospital Radio presenter has won a national award for her work on the airwaves.
Ellie Jackson, from Pateley Bridge, beat off stiff competition from hospital radio station volunteers from around the country to be crowned Best Female Presenter at this year’s National Hospital Radio Awards.
Ellie, who won Best Newcomer Silver award in 2008 and was commended in 2009 and 2010, was presented with her trophy at a glittering awards ceremony held at the Park Inn in Northampton.
Ellie said:
I’m absolutely thrilled to have won this award. Being shortlisted was an honour in itself, but actually winning the award is almost beyond belief.
I was up against some superb presenters and the standard as usual was very high indeed.
Harrogate Hospital Radio is a superb organisation to be a part of and this award is for everyone who has helped me and supported me over the last few years.
Harrogate Hospital Radio chairman Ian Wighton – who was nominated for Best Male Presenter – said:
I’m delighted for Ellie. Winning gold is a fantastic tribute to her talent. We can justifiably say we have the top female radio presenter in the country entertaining the patients within Harrogate District Hospital.
We have been broadcasting for 35 years and, as a society, we are going from strength to strength. I’m very proud of Ellie and everyone who was nominated in these prestigious national awards.
Harrogate Hospital Radio was shortlisted in four categories; Station of the Year, Best Male Presenter, Best Female Presenter and Promo of the Year.
Located within Harrogate District Hospital, Harrogate Hospital Radio has been broadcasting since 1977. It is run entirely by volunteers who perform a number of duties, including presenting, request collecting and “back office” functions.
Last year, the station was presented with The Duke of York’s Community Initiative Award for the work it does within Harrogate District Hospital.
