North Yorkshire Police are asking for the public’s help to identify a man following an allegation of racist abuse in Harrogate.
It occurred at around 10.45pm on Wednesday 4 April 2012, in the Co-op store on Otley Road when a youth tried to buy cigarettes. The woman working in the shop refused to serve him because he could not prove how old he was. He is alleged to have become abusive, using racially offensive language.
The suspect is described as white, aged in his late teens with a slim build and short dark hair, which is shaved at the sides. At the time of the incident he was wearing a light coloured t-shirt and beige trousers.
PC Tom Barker, of Harrogate Safer Neighbourhood Team, said:
North Yorkshire Police takes racism and all forms of hate crime very seriously. This deeply offensive behaviour is something that we will not tolerate.
I need to speak to anyone who can identify the individual in the CCTV image to contact the police or Crimestoppers immediately.
