Hotel du Vin Harrogate bar manager Peter Dobrontei has been learning all about how tobacco plants are nurtured and harvested to make some of the world’s finest and most sought-after cigars as part of a trip of a lifetime to Cuba.
Peter won the trip in a competition run by Cuban cigar importer Hunters and Frankau. The judges based their decision on Peter’s excellent knowledge of Cuban Cigars and his sales ability, which increased sales dramatically.
Commenting on his trip Peter Dobrontei said:
Visiting Cuba to learn about the tobacco and cigars was a rare but fascinating experience. I learnt so much being there and talking to the farmers who produce the tobacco and it has given me a better understanding of what makes the world’s finest cigars – I even got the opportunity to roll one myself. I have certainly picked up a lot of knowledge which I can share with Hotel du Vin guests.
Hotel du Vin specialise in a wide range of specialist and rare cigars and will be hosting a cigar dinner on Friday 8 June. The evening will include a three course meal and will be accompanied by a selection of wines and cigars to complement each course.
