Police are currently at the scene of a serious road collision on the A1 south-bound near Allerton Park (junction 47).
The south-bound carriageway has been closed from junction 48 and a diversion put in place along the A168. The carriageway is expected to remain closed for at least four hours. (approx 2pm)
Lane three (outside lane) of the north-bound carriageway was closed temporarily between junction 46 and 48 but is now open.
The collision was reported at 8.30 this morning (Wednesday 28 December 2011) and involved a HGV and a car. Officers are asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101.
