Police have evacuated residents from an area around an address on East View in Hellifiled, near Skipton.
This follows reports of a distressed man threatening to harm himself received from a local hospital at just before midnight on Wednesday 21 December 2011.
The area is currently cordoned off and members of the public are advised to stay from the area.
North Yorkshire Police is working with partner agencies to provide support for those inconvenienced by this incident.
The A65 is closed from the Gargrave roundabout between Skipton and Settle. A diversion is in place using the A682 at Gisburn.

The incident at East View in Hellifield was successfully resolved at around 8am when the man came out of the property voluntarily.
He was arrested in connection with the incident at the scene and has been taken to Airedale General Hospital for a precautionary check.

I also thank North Yorkshire County Council for assisting us to ensure that those people who had to leave their homes in the early hours had the support they needed.
The road blocks have now been lifted and the residents have been allowed to return home.
