ORGANISERS of a community remembrance celebration say there is still time for people in Harrogate to dedicate lights on Saint Michael’s Christmas tree in memory of loved ones.
The charity, which provides specialist care to local families living with terminal illness and bereavement, says it’s not too late to take part in the annual Light up a Life service.
The lights will be illuminated during the special community service at Saint Michael’s Hospice, Harrogate at 4pm on Sunday December 11, and will remain lit throughout the festive season as a tribute to those who can’t be with us this Christmas.
Tony Collins, chief executive of the charity that cares for more than 2400 local people a year, said:
Light up a Life is a very special community event that creates an atmosphere that is difficult to put into words.
Past occasions have seen laughter, tears, sharing, silence and reflection. “Everyone, not just those touched by the work of Saint Michael’s, is invited to dedicate a light on the tree to the memory of someone special.
We make no charge for dedications, but donations are most welcome and will allow us to continue to respond to the increasing numbers of local people requesting our help.
Donations from last year’s event totalled £42,000 including Gift Aid.
All donations from this appeal will help Harrogate’s local hospice ensure more local people get the care and support they need to live their last years, months and days with choice, respect and dignity.
