Harrogate made a great start last year but that was as good as it got for the Sulphurites. Harrogate won just six of their final 27 games last season and lost 16. They ended up finishing in 19th place, while they shipped 75 goals and only bottom club Scunthorpe conceded more. If they pick up where they left off when the new campaign gets underway, they could be in trouble.
How did they fare in Pre-Season
The boys did not have the best start to the pre-season period. Two defeats at home they had to cope with against Sheffield Wednesday 0-2 and Rotherham United 0-3. The last three games they played at a much better level of wins against Huddersfield Town 1-0 and a 2-2 draw against Barnsley. After all, Harrogate Town finished pre-season with a 3-1 win against Gateshead thanks to the excellent Luke Armstrong, who scored two goals. Simon Weaver’s final starting XI of pre-season was made up of seven summer additions, with George Thomson, Alex Pattison, Luke Armstrong and a trialist making up the starting line-up. There, it is also expected that he will insert into the line-up another of the new players such as Miles Welch-Hayes Right-Back, Kyle Ferguson Centre-Back, Max Wright Right Winger and Stephen Dooley Left Midfield. Harrogate Town also announced the signing of former Reading midfielder Tyler Frost.

The attitude towards the players and the motivation created by this expert is starting to pay off and new players seem to quickly fit into his game system. It should be noted that some players are already standing out and that they will be the bearers of Sulphurites’ game this season. Based on what they have shown so far, the boys and coaches deserve praise. The championship is not easy at all, the schedule is quite tight.
The Sulphurites welcomed Swidon town at home and got off to a dream start to the beginning of the season, comprehensively beating Swindon Town 3-0. The coach’s composition of the team assured the ball’s neat movement through the thirds in their new 3-4-2-1 formation.
What’s next?
Hoping to have found the right formula for winning at the start of the Championship, they may enter the next round more calmly. Only seven days later, Harrogate head to Crewe, who were relegated from League One last season, with their opponents in the first round of the Carabao Cup on August 10 yet to be decided. And then comes the most anticipated game of the year, for which everyone is especially motivated, both the players and the coach as well as all the fans.
The first Yorkshire derby of the season takes place on October 1 when Mark Hughes’ Bradford City will make a short trip to the EnviroVent Stadium. The return fixture will be played at Valley Parade on December 29. Weaver and his troops go to Doncaster Rovers on December 17th and then host their recently-demoted county rivals on April 15. Harrogate Town are at home to recently promoted Grimsby on Boxing Day, then visit Hartlepool United on New Year’s Day. The wrap up of their campaign will take place at home to Rochdale on May 6.
The 2022/2023 season is the 109th season in the existence of Harrogate Town association football club and the club’s third consecutive season in The Second Division. In addition to the league, they will also compete in the 2022–23 FA Cup, the 2022-23 EFL Cup and the 2022-23 EFL Trophy.
Hopefully they will stay up, but Town has been punching above their weight for years now. I wonder if the club would make more money in the National League because they would be able to go back to using the turf instead of grass which brought in a good bit of revenue just based on that.
