Call for fresh perspectives from emerging Northern artists

7 June 2022

North Yorkshire-based charity Rural Arts has announced the return of FRESH, its annual cross-disciplinary exhibition from early career artists in the North of England. The exhibition – which has not run for two years due to the pandemic – is open for entries until 21st June 2022.

Northern artists within the first 5 years of their professional practice are invited to submit work from a wide range of media, including but not limited to painting, drawing, photography, printmaking, textiles, ceramics, glass, sculpture, installation, film and projection.

New and upcoming artists have been supported by FRESH since it was established in 2016. Up to 8 artists will be selected for an exhibition running at The Courthouse, Rural Arts’ arts centre in Thirsk, from 9th – 23rd September 2022. Each artist will receive a mentoring and support package valued at £400. One artist will be chosen as the winner of the FRESH Award 2022, and will receive a solo exhibition at The Courthouse, in 2023 alongside a support and mentoring package worth £3,000.

Max May, Director and CEO of Rural Arts said:

We’re so glad that FRESH is back. We’re excited to hear from artists across a range of disciplines whose work has a fresh perspective, and something to say.

Whether you’re still studying or have never studied, young or older – as long as you identify as being in the first five years of your professional practice and live, work or study in the North – we’d love to hear from you!

Applications to enter FRESH 2022 are free, and the deadline for submissions is Tuesday 21st June 2022.
