Police have issued an appeal following a fatal collision in the Sherburn-in-Elmet area last night (Friday 12 August 2011).
The collision occurred on the B1222 Bishopdyke Road, between Sherburn-in-Elmet and Cawood, near to the Cumin Lounge Restaurant.
At around 5.45pm, a black Volkswagen Golf travelling from Sherburn to Cawood was in collision with black Honda CRV travelling in the opposite direction.
Sadly, the driver of the Golf, a 52-year-old local man, was pronounced dead a the scene of the collision. The passenger in the Golf, a 7-year-old boy, was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious injuries, where he remains in a stable condition.
All three male occupants of the Honda were taken to hospital. Two were taken to York District Hospital and one to Leeds General Infirmary. One has been discharged from York overnight, the two others, including the driver, are poorly but stable in York and LGI.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision. Traffic Sergeant Sean Grey, said: “I am appealing to anyone who either saw the vehicles travelling along the B1222 prior to impact or who witnessed the actual collision to contact us.
“It is vital to our investigation that anyone with any information who has not already spoken to the police, contacts us as soon as possible.”
