North Yorkshire: Covid 19 infection rates down by 32% and cases in hospital up by 14%

The North Yorkshire Local Resilience Forum met today to brief the media (27 January 2021).

• The forum  on numerous occasions referred to deaths due to covid, rather that deaths with covid – that was misleading
• A warning was made about participating in “The Great Reopening” on the 30 January. This is a public-driven initiative
• Infection rate for North Yorkshire has dropped from 307.6 to 208 within the week (infections per 100,000)
• Harrogate has dropped 322.7 to 228 (infections per 100,000)
• Inpatients with covid in North Yorkshire is now 504 (up 33) with 61 in ICU (up 10)
• The number of Fixed Penalty Notices has reduced with 87 issued over the county

Care homes 

There are 143 staff and residents  that’s down from 258 cases from the previous week.

There are fewer large outbreaks down to 2 from 9.

Vaccine

107,752  vaccine injections have been given in North Yorkshire, that is first and a small number of second doses.

On target to vaccinate, by the 15 Feb, aged  > 70, clinically vulnerable, care home residents and staff.

Further centres will open at Ripon Racecourse next week Scarborough Rugby Ground. A centre is also due to open on Elland Road.

A vaccine is believed to only offer protection after 2 to 3 weeks.

You can still spread the virus after you have had the vaccine.

Trading Standards

Trading Standards warned about a number of reports of scams by email, letter and phone, aiming to gather payments for a vaccine or a test.

Police

87 Fixed Penalties given in last week

Of those 87:

• 47 local residents
• 40 visitors to the county
• 41 outside a place of living
• 11 outdoor gathering
• 35 indoor gathering

Police are not randomly stopping vehicles.

Testing

Testing capacity is good.

Demand has slightly reduced.

Plans to roll out lateral flow testing as soon as it is possible to do.

Education

18% of children are at school

29% of primary school children are attending.

6% of secondary school children are attending.

That’s a slight rise, attributed a rise in vulnerable children attending.
