Staff at a Harrogate superstore have proved ‘top of the shops’ after throwing their support behind district’s growing number of unpaid carers.
Employees of Sainsbury’s store on Wetherby Road have adopted the Carers’ Resource as its Charity of the Year for 2011/12.
And the partnership got off to a flying start when representatives of the supermarket’s Colleague Council presented a range of play and sports equipment to the award-winning Harrogate and Ripon charity’s ‘Budz’ group of young carers.
Anne Wells, marketing and fund-raising manager at the Carers’ Resource, said: “We are thrilled to be adopted by the staff at Sainsbury’s. It will be a true partnership, in which they will support our vital work not just by giving money, but also by giving time.
“On behalf of all the local carers who will benefit enormously from the staff’s generosity, we would like to thank them for contributing to our future success.”
Elaine Steel, who sits on the store’s Colleague Council, said: “Like us, the Carers’ Resource is at the very heart of the local community and we look forward to helping it reach out in new ways to carers of all ages.
“We all know a carer – someone who, without payment, provides help and support to a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise because of frailty, illness or disability.
“Through fund-raising and volunteering, we want to raise money for the charity – as well as raise awareness of the plight of carers and the important role it plays by offering specialist support and advice to them.”
The Carers’ Resource has helped more than 12,000 carers since it launched more than 15 years ago and has an office at North Park Road, Harrogate.
