The Harrogate Stray opposite West Park has become green again. After a couple of weeks of mixed warm and wet weather the seeded grass has now sprouted.
While it has a way to go to be fully usable, it is very encouraging sign.
Kevin Ingram, Interim General Manager at Weetons, said:
‘It’s great to see the Stray starting to turn green. It has coincided perfectly with life on West Park returning to some degree of normality with more activity and a sense that if we are sensible, we can enjoy those aspect of Harrogate life that we hold dear.
Weetons has certainly experienced a great deal of interest in our new take away menu and it’s lovely to see people enjoying the open spaces once again.
Councillor Andrew Paraskos, cabinet member for environment, waste reduction and recycling, said:
I’m delighted to see the grass on the West Park area of the Stray growing well. The scarecrows that have been kindly made by local schools seem to be doing their job!
This has been the culmination of months of hard work and the area will look even better than before.
The netting will remain up for a little while longer so that the grass can continue to grow and we can repair the footpaths. Again, thank you to everyone’s patience during this time.
