It’s always nice to walk through a town or city and get surprised by someone or some group putting on a show for the public. This year, that’s exactly what Team BGee did in Harrogate town centre. The group thrilled the crowds with their song and dance routines and even got themselves a bit of social media fame.
To brighten up what has, so far, been a fairly dreary summer, Harrogate BID will be bringing back Team BGee for another run of weekend showings throughout August. So, there’ll be street entertainment to enjoy through to the end of the month on Saturdays and, apparently, shows will return at the end of October and December.
A booming return of street entertainment in Harrogate
On 3 August, Team BGee took to the streets and shops of Harrogate town centre to put on unexpected shows for the public. The group of three dedicated to the Bee Gees would set up in the middle of the street to sing and dance along to a bunch of famous songs by the group.
With Tragedy and Night Fever on the playlist, naturally, the trio got the crowd going, and a few watchers on were even invited to join them. When they performed Islands in the Stream, the video was posted to X (formerly Twitter), earning them an additional 1.7 million views.
As well as the Olympic-decked Team BGee, 10 August also saw Edmund and Hilary take to the street. The explorers searched the town for ways to get on with their adventure, getting help from anyone who could give them tips in Harrogate.
Harrogate BID manager Matthew Chapman has lauded the work of MarkMark Productions and stated that the BID will continue to fund fun and exciting street entertainers. In a press release launched on 12 August, he said that we should “keep an eye out over the coming weekends” as a range of performances are on the way.
We now know that there’ll be street entertainment on show throughout August in Harrogate, further complementing the buzz of the town and the range of fun things to do.
Fun times are everywhere to be found
Whether you’re at home or out and about, there’s fun to be had in Harrogate. Of course, in the modern day, many turn to the stacks of entertainment found online. From streaming services to the games of the PayPal casino, there’s a lot to discover.
On the casino, for example, there are over 4,000 games for fans of the regal-themed entertainment platform to try, including slot games and classic table games. Harrogate has also been able to attract some star performers for dates coming soon. Al Murray arrives on 19 October, and the hit show Dracula will take to the stage from 12 September.
Then, of course, there are the natural beauties just outside of town to experience. Open for the spring and summer, Plumpton Rocks was once hailed by Queen Mary as “Heaven on Earth.” The 30-acre parkland offers a tranquil day out and some of the most stunning rock formations, lakes, and waterfalls you’ll find in the UK.
Street entertainment having an extended run in Harrogate town will only enhance the thrills of being out and about this month. Plus, if you miss a show, there’s always a bunch of other options around.
