Queen Ethelburga’s Celebrates Exceptional Achievements

19 August 2022

Students, staff and parents, from the award-winning North Yorkshire independent schools which make up Queen Ethelburga’s Collegiate, are celebrating today, following exceptional achievements on A Level and BTEC Results Day 2022.

This year saw the return to the traditional examination schedule following the disruption of the pandemic, presenting a challenging time for many students who have not previously experienced a formal examination setting. The focus and outstanding positivity of this particular group of A Level and BTEC students is fully reflected within today’s results.

QE has two senior schools on their modern, well-equipped campus, which is close to York, Harrogate and Leeds, in Thorpe Underwood. This allows for a high level of personalised care and guidance for all students,
and an innovative curriculum model to suit each individual. Students in QE Faculty achieved 86% A*-B grades at A Level and in QE College achieved 96% percent A*-B grades. The percentage of BTEC Distinction* and Distinction grades in QE Faculty was 81%.

This year has seen students aim high with a wide range of first choice university places achieved at Cambridge, Imperial College London, the London School of Economics, Durham, King’s College London, University College London, and Bath, amongst other excellent UK and worldwide universities.

Principal of the Collegiate, Daniel Machin, said:

We are very proud of every single one of our Year 13 students, and I would like to wish each of them well as they continue their educational journey and move on from QE. The fantastic results they have received today are sure to set them up for exceptional futures. However, if the last two years has taught us anything, it is the importance we should place on factors which our students display in abundance; those of compassion, humility, kindness, selflessness,
resilience, generosity, and courage.

Our students’ determination to develop all of these skills which are crucial for future life, ensures they continue to achieve the highest possible standards in all that they do, and all our staff have been privileged to have been able to support them on their individual journeys. We are delighted to be able to celebrate such a fantastic set of results for 2022 at QE, and share in our students’ success.

As seen in national league tables, the A Level results for both QE College and QE Faculty have been amongst the best schools in the country for many years now. The Collegiate has also recently been shortlisted for the prestigious Independent School of the Year Awards in five categories: Independent Prep School of the Year for Chapter House; Independent Boarding School of the Year; School of the Year for Community Outreach; Unsung Hero of the Year; and Rising Star of the Year. In addition, for the second year running, one of our prefects, Oluwatoni, was awarded the national Lexden Prize 2022 by the Independent Schools Association, for the ‘Most Remarkable Sixth Form Student,’ for her national and international fundraising and charitable work. This follows on from the success of former Head Boy, Cyrus, in 2021.
