Willow Tree Primary School welcomed the return of Sports Day in a fun-filled day that saw pupils across the school coming together to take part in a number of sporting challenges.
With the temperature having dropped from the tropical heat of the early week, the children enjoyed showing off their sporting abilities in what turned out to be a bright and sunny day. They worked as part of a multi-year group team made up of 24 members ranging from reception to Year 6, who rotated around different activities set out on the school’s large grounds. The day epitomised the school motto ‘Laughter, Loving and Friendship’ encouraging the children to work together to score the most points, with the older pupils supporting the younger ones in the challenges set.
Students from Harrogate High were also on hand to help run the individual activities, giving instructions and encouraging everyone to take part with positive chants. Parents watching on the day were kept fed and watered by the PTFA who ran a food and drink stall to help raise money for the much-needed playground equipment appeal. At the end of the day, all the teams were treated to ice lollies whilst they watched the winner’s awards ceremony.
Assistant Head, Amy Halpin said:
A truly fantastic day was had by all. It was amazing to see the whole school community out on the field after such a long period where full school activities haven’t been possible. Our children showed fantastic determination and loved the opportunity to all spend time together as a school again.
