Harrogate Town AFC have welcomed defender Miles Welch-Hayes to the club.
The 25-year-old has spent the last two and a half seasons at Colchester United, where he made over a half century of appearances, the majority coming in the 21/22 campaign helping The Us retain their EFL status.
Capable of playing on the right or in the centre of defence, Welch-Hayes is closing in on 100 appearances in League Two having featured for Macclesfield prior to his stint at JobServe Community Stadium.
The Oxford-born defender started his career at Oxford United, making his League One debut in August 2016 before signing for Bath City, where his performances earned him a place in the 2017/18 National League South Team of the Year.
It was his defensive showings in the EFL that caught the eye of Manager Simon Weaver though.
Simon Weaver said:
We’ve seen a lot of him at Colchester and watching him I thought he was a gritty defender and a superb athlete
His attitude to defending was really refreshing, he wants to defend and enjoys defending, he’s hard to beat and that’s what we want to be as a team, he’s going to play an important part in that.
We conceded too many goals last season to be successful, we have to try and learn our lessons and to do that we need the likes of Miles to come in.
Miles will wear the number two for Harrogate Town.
