Harrogate College held the FE Art & Design End of Year Show on the evening of 23 of June 22. The evening showcased work from the MA course, and the foundation diploma.
This is an annual show, but hasn’t happened over the past 2-years due to government restrictions.

I am doing a foundation diploma in art and design. It’s a one-year course. Initially we are exposed to a number of areas such as film photography, animation, painting and still life.
The second part of the year was focused onto more what we were interested in, so we could pick a certain topic, and go more-detailed into that.
The final part of the year was our major project where we had freedom to do whatever we wanted to do.
It’s a level-3 course, so the same level as A-levels, meaning you get UCAS points from the course.
From this course I am moving onto Lincoln University to study animation and moving picture.
Rachael Dixey is a mature student on the foundation diploma.

The course has a good reputation, and 4-years into retirement I decided to see if I could learn how to draw and paint. I had previously had a career in a completely different field.
Before this, I did a 16-week short-course in the highlands of Scotland, where I did learn to paint and draw.
I hadn’t done anything before like this, I previously had a career in public health, but then wanted to study for a whole year.
The course has been great. From here I want to have a year off, and then see if I can get into a good arts school in Edinburgh.
This course is broad, and gives you a good solid foundation, and because I am the only mature student being around 50-years older than all the other students, my approach has been more conventional with painting and drawing.
A lot of the other students have done things that will get them jobs, things like animation, illustration, graphic design.
