Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival was a huge hit after three-year COVID break – kindly sponsored by Wolseley.
The Ripon Cathedral Beer festival was the place to be in Ripon this bank holiday Monday with 1,250 adults coming to enjoy a few beers to support the cathedral. Overcast skies failed to deter visitors and £18,000 was raised; this will help fund the music, heritage conservation and the education programme at Ripon Cathedral.
The beer festival rounded off a long weekend of celebratory events and worship as Ripon Cathedral launched its 1350th anniversary celebrations, with lots more to come later this month and throughout the summer and autumn!
The Beer Festival, which took place in the Dean’s Garden on Monday 2nd May, saw 42 different interesting Yorkshire brews on offer including Hambleton Ales, Wold Top Bitter, Rudgate Brewery, Roosters, Yorkshire Heart, Timothy Taylor’s, Theakstons, Pennine Brewery, Richmond Brewery, Harrogate Brewing Company, Boson Brewing Company and Daleside Brewery. Local Sleningford Cider was also on sale plus Pimms, wine and soft drinks to tantalise the tastebuds. Visitors also enjoyed the music of popular bands – The Temps, Reef Hound and Jaspa.
Children enjoyed a bouncy castle, tombola, playing with Brick Box Yorkshire’s huge quantities of lego, ice creams and playing games in the park.
Development Manager Margaret Hammond said:
It was lovely to be able to host this annual fundraising event again after being unable to do so since 2019, due to the pandemic. The event was a fantastic success and our supporters showed just how loyal they are after a three year gap, many familiar faces joined us again! We have such fantastic volunteers and staff who help to make the event possible, thank you to everyone who contributed.
Wolseley was the main event sponsor and many other local Ripon businesses generously sponsored advertising in the programme distributed at the event; Ripon Cathedral Business Partners Brewin Dolphin and Raworths Solicitors also greatly contributed. We are so incredibly grateful to Rick Jones from Valenteno’s and the Water Rat, who once again was integral to the event and has supported us since the very first Ripon Cathedral Beer Festival, which was held on May Day 2006!
We hope that everyone who attended enjoyed the day and that many can join us next year for the annual Beer Festival, to see in the bank holiday on Monday 1st May 2023. In the meantime we will pray for sunshine!
The Ripon Cathedral Development Campaign organises other popular fundraising events throughout the year including the The 1350th Celebratory St Wilfrid Gala Banquet on Friday 14th October, the Christmas Gift and Food Fair on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th November, and next year on Saturday 15th April the Spring Food, Home and Garden Fair.
