Harrogate District is having a 3-week Climate Action Festival (CAFé) in the run-up to COP26 in October 2021.
- COP26 is the next annual UN climate change conference. COP stands for Conference of the Parties, and the summit will be attended by the countries that signed the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – a treaty that came into force in 1994.
The Festival replaces the Harrogate District Climate Change Coalition (HDCCC) conference of 2020, which was postponed due to Covid.
The objective of the CAFé is to have fun and at the same time helping local people to start taking actions which reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, help to limit climate change, as well as benefiting nature and wildlife.
Please get in touch with one of their volunteers via email@hdccc.info if you can help with running an activity, sponsorship or something else.
If you are already planning a climate event during these three weeks or during the year in the lead up to the festival please let HDCCC know, because we are offering to help promote all appropriate climate action activities through a calendar of CAFé events on our website (www.hdccc.info)
A HDCC spokesperson said:
This is the first year we have held the festival, and we will need as much involvement from others as possible to make this a whole of Harrogate district response to climate change.
We aim to involve the skills, energy and ideas of as many of our fabulous local people and organisations as possible so that the CAFé becomes an exciting period of climate focussed events which reach multiple audiences and inspire a wide range of climate actions.
HDCCC plans to organise 3 CAFé events during October 2021, and we hope other local groups, schools, businesses & organisations will provide activities as well – using their own choice of venues etc. We know many local residents and businesses are already thinking about what climate actions they can take before COP26 – and hope that between us all we can generate massive interest, enthusiasm and inspire individuals, families, businesses and communities to take a range of actions which will benefit both the climate and all residents of Harrogate District.
