Students who perform in Ripon Cathedral every year at their school’s popular annual Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols have produced a virtual concert for the city’s community to enjoy.
The socially distanced carol concert features Ripon Grammar School’s brass ensemble ‘bubble choirs’ from years 7 to 13 and harpist Lucinda Taylor, along with readings from students and staff.
Filmed in the beautiful setting of Holy Trinity Church, director of music Michael Barker praised all the students for their magnificent performance in such challenging circumstances.
Mr Barker said:
It’s sad that we cannot gather in Ripon Cathedral, as we usually do, for this wonderful annual event, but our students have risen to the occasion and done themselves and their school proud.
Normally, more than 800 people attend the school’s concert in the cathedral.
Mr Barker said:
We hope the wider Ripon community will be able to sit down and enjoy this year’s concert from their own homes over the Christmas period.
