Real life trips and visits might be off the cards for a while longer, but Willow Tree Primary School is determined to continue to raise the profile of reading for pleasure.
Year 3 and Year 4 pupils were very lucky to receive an invite to ‘The Great Big Book Hullabaloo’ from the Little Ripon Bookshop. Each class received an exciting delivery which included top secret details for the event and a book from the author and illustrator they then got to meet virtually – Laura Ellen Anderson.
Laura Ellen Anderson spoke to the excited children about her Amelia Fang books and gave them tips for developing characters in their own stories guiding them through two illustrations.
They had a fantastic afternoon creating their drawings of Squashy the pumpkin for their own book cover!
Year 3 & 4 Phase Leader, Miss McCauley commented:
Author visits have previously been a regular event for us at school and we were determined that current restrictions weren’t going to stop these from happening. The children get so much out of meeting the people behind the stories they know and love. The afternoon was a huge success and it was fantastic to see the children so engaged with Laura’s talk – we can’t wait to apply what we learnt to our own illustrations and stories!
