County councillors have voted 57 and 11 against for the proposal for two councils in North Yorkshire, that’s York to remain as a City Council and North Yorkshire County Council to run everything else.
The Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government has requested proposals from NYCC, York City Council and each Borough Council around a single tier unitary government for North Yorkshire – they have requested those by the 9 November.
All proposals need to “include evidence of a good deal of local support” – it is not clear how NYCC’s proposal meets that criteria.
NYCC have declined to answer questions over their proposal and refused to put anyone forward for interview.
