Deer Shed second wave of music

28 January 2020

After revealing Stereolab and Baxter Dury as its Friday and Sunday headliners in November, Deer Shed Festival has released its second wave of music for the 2020 line-up, featuring Ghostpoet, Cate Le Bon, Tim Burgess, Warmduscher, and more than 30 other acts.

Two-time Mercury nominee Ghostpoet joins headliners Stereolab on the Main Stage on Friday, while renowned French singer-songwriter Cate Le Bon will play before Deer Shed’s Saturday night Main Stage headliner, who the festival has yet to reveal.

24th-26th July 2020 Baldersby Park, Topcliffe, North Yorkshire

Tim Burgess, singer of Madchester icons The Charlatans, is set to headline In The Dock on Friday, Deer Shed’s second of four live music stages, joining The Twilight Sad and Kate Tempest as stage headliners, who will then perform on Saturday and Sunday respectively.
Boy Azooga, Dream Wife and Jesca Hoop are all artists familiar with performing in Baldersby Park, the 100 acres of North Yorkshire parkland, woodland, lakes and rivers which Deer Shed calls home. They are all set for a return to the festival this July, with Boy Azooga on the Main Stage, Dream Wife elevated to In The Dock headliners on Friday and Jesca Hoop joining Roddy Woomble as a Lodge stage headliner on the Saturday.

Warmduscher are set to play at Deer Shed on the Saturday, bringing their industrial post-punk sounds to the Main Stage. Their most recent album, 2019’s Tainted Lunch, received high critical acclaim, including being named as one of BBC 6 Music’s Albums of the Year 2019.

As is Deer Shed tradition, the representation of acts from across Yorkshire and the North East regions will be strong in 2020, including Hullensian punk band LIFE, Leeds-based indie bands Marsicans and Ruthie, Sheffield nerd disco trio International Teachers of Pop, North Yorkshire Moors alt rock band Avalanche Party, Leeds-based folksingers Serious Sam Barrett and Gary Stewart, and North East artists Mt. Misery, Tom Joshua and Beccy Owen.

A wealth of folk-influenced artists have also been added to the increasingly eclectic line-up, including Erland Cooper, Admiral Fallow I See Rivers, Kitt Philipa, Rachael Dadd, Eve Owen, Irish Mythen, Conchúr White, and The Magpies.

The alternative rock contingent of the festival music bill is further bolstered with the additions of hotly tipped bands W.H. Lung, Do Nothing, Egyptian Blue, Kate Davis and Friedberg.

Irish folk duo Morrissey & Marshall will present their Dublin Calling radio show live from Balderbsy Park, featuring a line-up of live performances from some of the elite players and singers from the Irish roots, Trad and Céilí world, Steo Wall, Brigid Mae Power and Padraig Jack.

Harrogate Big Beat producer Rory Hoy and Newcastle-based producer Meg Ward have been revealed as Deer Shed’s first DJs, spinning tunes back to back at the festival’s late-night silent disco on Friday, while Bez, the legendary percussionist from The Happy Mondays, will take to the decks and dancefloor for Sunday’s closing party.

Rory said:

I am absolutely thrilled to be doing Deershed again this year. This will be my 5th year doing Deershed and it should be a good one, as I’m doing two shows this time.

Friday’s (24th July) set will be a Silent Disco at the ‘In The Dock’ stage starting at 9:45PM, while Sunday’s set (July 26th) will be an ‘Early Morning Rave’ at the Big Top Stage starting at 8:30AM. Should be fun!

The festival team still have a handful of high-profile names left to reveal, including their Saturday night Main Stage headliner, but they are keeping their cards close to their chest for the time being.

Deer Shed Festival director Oliver Jones said:

There has yet to be a year at Deer Shed where we haven’t significantly expanded the music offering. The day may eventually come where we decide we have enough amazing bands, but that year certainly isn’t 2020!

Ghostpoet, Cate Le Bon, Tim Burgess, Warmduscher, joining headliners Stereolab and Baxter Dury, plus a mass of artists ready to break the big time in 2020, are all ensuring the music line-up is once again brimming with world class talent, and we still have an ace up our sleeve for the Saturday headline slot.

The second tier of tickets to Deer Shed’s eleventh event are set to sell out at midnight on Friday 31st January. Tier 3 tickets will be available from Saturday 1st February, at an increase of £10 per adult ticket.
