This month, a planning application (19/01178/RG3MAJ) for Ripon’s ‘new pool’ and improvements at Ripon Leisure Centre has been submitted.
Harrogate Borough Council is proposing to provide a new six-lane 25metre swimming pool and vastly improved leisure centre for the local community to enjoy for many years to come.
Councillor Stanley Lumley, Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and sport, said:
Ripon Spa Baths has served the community well over the years, but there is clearly the need for better, modern facilities that will encourage a healthier and more active lifestyle for our residents.
Last year we asked local people what they thought about our proposals and the overwhelming response was supportive of the scheme. I’m delighted to now tell residents that plans have now been submitted.
The planning application is scheduled to be considered by the planning committee in the summer and if approved work will start in the autumn.
To keep things moving, the council are currently carrying out a survey of the ground around the site to know exactly what they are dealing with and can plan accordingly.
Councillor Lumley added:
The addition of the new swimming pool and the improvements to the leisure centre will be a major development for Ripon and the surrounding area, and provide much needed additional facilities that local residents can be proud of.
