Two Harrogate Grammar School students have had recent cause to celebrate. Sisters, Eve Whitaker (Year 8) and Alexis Whitaker (Year 9) took part in the English Fell Running Championship, consisting of a series of six races over the Spring and Summer, of which the four best positions count.
Eve managed a full score of 4 clear wins, taking home the title of U15 Girls English and Yorkshire Fell Running Champion. Alexis also did well, fighting for her place and achieving a commendable 3rd place in U15 Girls English Fell Running Championship, after a nail biting last race of the series.
This is the second year that Alexis and Eve have competed on the fells, with Eve stepping up to the U15 Girls’ category this year having won the U13 English and Yorkshire Championships in 2017.
The Harrogate Grammar School students both train and race for Harrogate Harriers and also compete in the Yorkshire and Humber Triathlon series.
The next competitive event will be the Schools Fell Running Championship, taking place on 23rd September at Giggleswick. Harrogate Harriers have a children’s off road training once a month, and anyone who is interested can get in touch with them via their website: www.harrogate-harriers.co.uk
Amazing, especially from Eve, as she is younger. This is a very testing sport of course, and they both have my best wishes for the future.
