A Harrogate school pupil will be spending her summer holidays rehearsing for a charity concert she is staging this autumn in memory of her aunt and uncle who died of cancer.
Niamh Boyle and friends will be performing “Songs from the Musicals”, including hits from Hairspray, The Greatest Showman and Ghost, in the town’s St Wilfrid’s Church on Saturday, September 15, in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
Post-performance, guests will be treated to food and an after-show party in the church hall and there will be a bar available.
A silent auction will also be held with prizes including a weekend stay at The Principal Hotel in Edinburgh with breakfast and a spa treatment included, as well as tickets to see Kylie Minogue at the O2 in Leeds. There will also be a raffle where there will be a number of other superb prizes to be won.
Proceeds from the concert – ticket sales, prize draw and auction – will all be donated to the charity which has great significance for Niamh and her family, as it was Macmillan nurses who comforted her aunt and uncle in their final days.
Niamh, who will start Year 11 at Ashville College in September, said:
I’m absolutely thrilled with the level of support so far and I can’t believe how much people have got behind this.
I would like to pay special tribute to all those who have donated prizes and sponsored the event such as Jeremy Hopkinson from Hopkinson’s Estate Agents.
It just goes to show that when you do something that’s a little bit different for such a superb charity like Macmillan, people will support it.
Less than a year ago both my aunt and uncle died from cancer, and the Macmillan nurses who looked after them were wonderful. They were caring, compassionate and considerate.
The concert is a celebration of life; it’s going to be an uplifting night of happiness and enjoyment and an opportunity to say a big thank you to these brilliant nurses by raising funds for them.
The concert will be held at St Wilfrid’s Church and hall on Duchy Road, Harrogate, at 7pm on Saturday, September 15.
