Award winning takeaway shop, I am Doner in Headingley is seeking the help of its regulars and the locals of Harrogate to open its second shop in the North Yorkshire town.
Founded by chef Paul Baron who swapped Michelin starred kitchens for the counter of a kebab shop, the vision is to improve the kebab from being a guilty pleasure for the intoxicated into a fast food that people can be proud of loving.
The shop that opened in May 2016 gained national recognition in its first year as the overall winner of the National Kebab Awards and was recognised in parliament just a few weeks ago as part of its initiative to go plastic-free with its packaging. It was also featured on national television and local radio with its popular Christmas Dinner Doner last December.
The business has secured a new shop on Station Parade in Harrogate and looks to open in the late summer. They have launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign to help fund the expansion, where fans and locals can show their support by buying vouchers and kebabs ahead of the opening, as well as taking advantage of some other interesting rewards like a Doner Kebab Safari to Berlin with Baron or buy a year’s worth of doner kebabs.
Founder, Paul Baron, said:
We are so excited to be heading to Harrogate. We’ve had so much love for what we do here in Headingley and just know we’ll have an equal amount of support there. As a small business it’s not easy moving from one site to two, but we feel like we’ve learnt a lot from our mistakes here, so we are starting in a much better place for this opening.
We are asking our fans from Headingley and potential customers in Harrogate to support us by pre-purchasing kebabs, helping us make this dream a reality and to get us open. We’ve been really generous with the rewards for our backers, so they will get great value for money. The vouchers will be able to be used in both the shops.
I’m glad to see people catching on how good the humble Doner can be when done right. I’ve tried “I am Doner” and I must say it’s excellent effort in leading the kebab revolution.
