Simon Thomas, one of the Directors and family owners of Thomas the Baker has announced that the bakery is closing its Harrogate shop this weekend.
Simon Thomas said:
It is with great sadness we announce the closure of our Harrogate store.
Thomas’ lease recently came to an end, and the landlord had plans in place to redevelop the Victoria Shopping Centre and create space for a new bigger Next store which means that we have no choice but to move out.
The business has traded very well in Harrogate for the last 15 years and we are genuinely sorry to be departing.
We are very grateful to our many loyal and valued customers, and it’s a shame this all happened at such short notice. We are pleased, however, to be able to advise that all the shop team have been relocated to other local shops and we have been able to retain full employment.
Thomas the Baker has other shops locally in both Knaresborough and Ripon town centres and we would be delighted to welcome our hungry Harrogate customers in to these shops at any time!
Shame. Could they not relocate? Plenty of empty stores in Harrogate need new life.
Bloody councils. Supposed to work for the people, only work for big business, especially in Harrogate
How many more have to go till we become a ghost town, lower the rates,at least some revenue is better than nowt.
What a shame :-(
15 years only? Pretty sure I was working there at 14…34 now. So sad to see it go..the best bakers in town by a mile
