Thousands expected to Street Food Festival, StrEat

28 March 2018

The family street food festival, StrEat, is returning to Harrogate on 26 to 28 May 2018 – but to a new home at the Yorkshire Showground.

The event is being organised by Cathy McConaghy of StrEat.

Cathy said:

I am expecting that the event will be even bigger and better than before.

The move to the Showground has given us significant advantages in what we can do – most notably with the addition of the children’s fun fair.

We have also decided to offer more, but charge an entry fee. This year it will be £5 entry, but 13 and under are free. I know that this has been commented on by many on social media, but we feel it is the right way to cover costs and develop the event.

There will be performers, acrobats, comedy fortune tellers, stilt walkers, activities and rides to help celebrate the May bank holiday weekend. The funfair will have a Vintage Carousel, Heater Skelter and Swing Boats.

There will be food from all around the world, often in all manner of quirky vehicles.

Cathy added:

Ticket sales are already good and we have great selection of traders coming along. I am confidently expecting the numbers to be significantly up on previous years.

While we are not in the town centre, that does give advantages in many ways. Parking will be easy and it makes it safer for families in closed space, as compared to the public space of Valley Gardens.

It’s more of a day-time, early evening family event – we want people to feel that they can come along and just relax and enjoy the event.

The event has been welcomed by the Yorkshire Event Centre.

Paul Ashton, Head of Sales at Yorkshire Event Centre, said:

We are delighted to have StrEat Food Festival here at the showground for the first time ever in May and we look forward to an exciting event!

  1. I represent Knot Another Choir from Knaresborough. We are a 40 strong community choir. We sing at lots of local events. We would love the opportunity to sing at the food festival.
    Thank you
    Julie.
