A pupil from Harrogate’s Ashville Junior School pupil has been selected for the 2017 North East Regional Swimming Training Camp.
These camps form part of the Swim England North East Regional Performance Programme, and will give Lucas Waligora an opportunity to develop his technical, tactical, physical and psychological skills with swimmers of a similar age, and ability, from across the region.
This rounds off an excellent season for the Year 6 student, who won gold at the HMC (Headmasters and Headmistresses Conference) Championships, a silver medal at the recent IAPS Independent Association of Prep Schools) Finals and was part of the team that won the U12 team title at the National Schools’ Biathlon Championships.
Duncan Archer, Head of Sports Development at Ashville College, said: This is a tremendous achievement for Lucas, who is one of several Ashville pupils selected to be part of regional and national programmes.
These include Finlay Waligora, Charlotte Parris and Joseph Moore, who are all on the England Talent Programme for Pentathlon GB.
Will Farrar and Luke Brownlee have joined the Hockey Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence programme whilst George Turner and Freddie Bashforth-Bell are part of the North East England Hockey programme.
Meanwhile on cricket pitch, the following players have been selected to play for Yorkshire; Eliot Goldthorp, U15s; Hector Bowerman, U14s; Jonny Macgregor, U16s and Harry Dawson, U13s
Mr Archer added: To have some many of our pupils working on the regional and national programmes is a credit to their hard work and devotion to their sport. It also shows the level of coaching they receive from the Ashville games department assisting them to this level.
Sport is a major focus of Ashville school life – from the youngest in our pre-prep school right through to the Upper Sixth, and over the years we have invested significantly in our facilities, which is paying dividends.
Ahead of the new school year in September, a £3.8m programme of expansion and improvements at our sports centre will be completed.
This will provide our pupils, plus members of the public, with a fantastic facility featuring 30m swimming pool, dance studios, weights room, squash courts, sports halls and café.
