Pupils at a Harrogate pre-prep school have raised more than £360 building dens during a day organised and supported by a national charity.
The boys and girls from Ashville Pre-Prep School, on Yew Tree Lane, were participating in Save the Children’s National Den Day, which aims to spread awareness to children about those less fortunate than themselves.
The money raised helps to give children growing up in some of the toughest places in the world a safe place to shelter, as well as providing vital things like food and water, healthcare, protection and education.
The youngsters learned the importance of shelter in assemblies and lessons and used a host of materials – including cardboard boxes, plastic sheets and garden canes – to construct their own dens.
Each child brought in a donation, as well as contributing with materials for everyone to use outdoors on the day.
Pre-Prep teacher Debbie Baker said: The children really enjoyed building their dens and there were some fantastic creations. They also showed great team work and resilience, especially on a rather windy day!
This has been a great opportunity for them to learn about those less fortunate than themselves, who have to live and sleep in makeshift shelters, as well as supporting a notable charity.
