Harrogate’s Community Furniture store, Essential Needs, has been part of the local community, providing low cost furniture to those in need for over 21 years. But you may never have known, because up until now furniture has always been collected and delivered anonymously in an unmarked van.
With the aid of funding from the NYCC Locality Budget of Councillor Don Mackenzie, the charity has just given its van a makeover with eye catching graphics to let potential donors, customers and volunteers know about the valuable service on offer.
Cllr Don Mackenzie, a trustee on the board of Essential Needs, said: We are a small charity and cover the whole of the Harrogate borough. The newly sign-written van will be a significant boost to our efforts to promote the service, which, in times of tighter control of benefits, is more important than ever.
The box van was purchased in 2015 and was part funded by Harrogate Borough Council
Mike Chambers, the cabinet member for Housing and Safer Communities at Harrogate Borough Council, said: We were very pleased to be able to support Essential Needs with the purchase of their new van and are thrilled that the charity have now had the van sign-written. As well as the marketing potential this offers the charity, the signwriting will help give customers the confidence that they are dealing with the professional and reputable charity that Essential Needs is.
