Hydro gym goes to the next level with new equipment and major refurbishment programme

30 November 2016

New ‘state of the art’ gym equipment is just one of the improvements planned for The Hydro in Harrogate when the facility closes for two weeks in December for a major refurbishment.

The revamp of the centre’s facilities will see some of the latest Technogym fitness equipment and technology installed in the Brimhams fitness centre, including an extensive range of Technogym’s ‘Excite’ range of cardio equipment including treadmills, cross-trainers and bikes; a variety of Technogym’s latest ‘Selection Pro’ resistance machines; and a full range of free weights and weight training equipment.

The new Selection Pro resistance machines also feature a small Wi-Fi connected touchscreen offering a virtual coach for strength training, the first of its kind in the industry. The display provides real-time visual biofeedback on range of motion and speed of execution; as well as fitness tests including the Maximal Test and the Power Test.

As part of the refurb Brimhams will be introducing Technogym’s mywellness cloud platform. This health and lifestyle tracking technology can be linked to Brimhams’ very own ‘BrimhamsActive’ mobile app, which will be launched in January. The app can be linked to wearable tech including Garmin and Polar, and popular third party apps such as Runkeeper, Strava, MyFitnessPal and many more. This provides customers with one central place to record their indoor and outdoor workouts, access their activity data, track their results and review their progress.

Along with state of the art training equipment for the Brimhams centre, The Hydro’s changing areas will be getting a revamp, with new cubicles and décor, and the dance studio is being redecorated.

Councillor Stanley Lumley is Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for Culture and Sport.  He said:

We are committed to investing in the district’s leisure and sporting facilities and the major refurbishment work at the Hydro along with the Brimhams upgrades will provide residents with great places to exercise and keep fit.

The Brimhams fitness centres across the district will be completely transformed with equipment that is stylish and modern, and better meets the expectations of modern gym users.  It will also enable us to continue to lead the way in offering the best fitness training venues in the area.

We hope that residents will enjoy using the new, improved fitness centres and will bear with us whilst the work is carried out.  This is an exciting time for our leisure centres and, as always, our highly trained staff will be on hand to answer any questions people have about the new equipment, and give advice on getting the most out their workouts.

Whilst the refurbishing work is being carried out, the Hydro will be closed from Monday 5 December and is expected to re-open on Monday 19 December. Customers can continue to use the council’s other leisure centres in the district and can get details of these from Hydro staff or the council’s website at www.harrogate.gov.uk/sportandleisure

To enable the Technogym upgrades to be carried out at the other fitness centres in the district:

Brimhams at Nidderdale Pool and Leisure Centre in Pateley Bridge will be closed from Monday 12 December and is scheduled to reopen on Thursday 15 December.  Classes will still take place and the pool will be open.

Brimhams at Ripon Leisure Centre will be closed from Tuesday 13 December and is scheduled to reopen on Thursday 15 December.  Classes will still be running, but there may be some programme changes.
