Harrogate Town defeated Barnoldswick Town in an entertaining match at the CNG Stadium,to progress into the next round of the West Riding County Cup,where they will face Campion F C.
Wayne Brooksby opened the scoring for Town after eighteen minutes with an unstoppable curler into the far corner of the net.
Town kept up the pressure and visiting keeper,Jordan Gidley,saved well from Lewis Turner,after he had been played in by Tom Platt.
On the half hour,Platt headed against the bar,but within three minutes,Town went further ahead,when Brooksby scored from the penalty spot after he had been brought down by Gidley.
Barnoldswick striker,Joe Gaughan,almost pulled one back with the first action of the second half,when he forced Peter Crook to tip his rising drive over the bar.
Town virtually made the game safe on the hour,when sub John Beckwith was shown a straight red card for handling Platt’s shot inside the area, and Brooksby stepped up to complete his hat trick with a well struck penalty.
Gidley,then pulled out a magnificent double save from Jack Emmett and Platt to keep the score down, while at the other end,Gaughan spurned a chance to pull one back when he shot wide from twelve yards.
A Turner cross glanced off the visitor’s bar,before, with five minutes left,sub Jordan Robertson made it four with a shot off the inside of the post.
