The new head boy and girl at Rossett School have an extra reason to be proud of their roles this year.
Daniel Corazzi and Sophie Lee, both aged 17 and from Harrogate, are the first pair to head up the sixth form in its brand new home.
A Sixth Form Centre has been created over the summer, complete with state-of-the-art IT facilities, its own classrooms, and a modern, airy common room.
Sophie, who hopes to pursue a degree in Geography after sixth form, said:
I’m really proud to be head girl at the new Rossett Sixth Form Centre.
It’s a really positive workspace where I know all the students will thrive this year, and for a long time to come. I wanted to be head girl so I could represent the student body and also improve the sixth form, and I think this new centre is the ideal place to start.
Daniel, who is studying Maths and three sciences has already achieved 4 A grade results at AS, in his pursuit of his ambition to read Pure Physics at Oxford. He said:
It’s a fantastic facility – modern, friendly and welcoming.
I think it’s the perfect place for students to study with a greater sense of independence, to help us prepare for university or starting their career.
Their excitement is shared by their deputies.
Deputy head girl Ellie Watson-Hornsby, 17, from Harrogate, is aiming for a career in criminology and is already enjoying the sense of responsibility that comes with her role.
Ellie said:
I know the next few years are going to involve a lot of decision-making for me, so being deputy head girl gives me the chance to build my confidence and prepare for new challenges.
Deputy head boy Dylan Bahia, 17, lives in North Leeds and got A grades in Computer Science, Maths, Further Maths and Economics at AS level.
Dylan said:
It’s great for sixth formers to have their own separate facilities.
I want to study maths at university so there’s a lot of hard work to be done this year. The new computer facilities in the sixth form centre will make a big difference to us all.
