A North Yorkshire-based firm of chartered accountants is marking an historic milestone later this month.
Independent, family-run Cook Trotter Ltd is celebrating 50 years in business – with a birthday party just metres from where the business was originally founded!
Former accountancy lecturer Peter Cook set up his practice in 1966 at his home on Harrogate’s Daleside estate, after discovering that a few of his friends needed his accountancy skills.
Some of Peter’s original clients from five decades ago are still with the firm today.
When business partner Gillian Trotter joined him in 1984, the firm changed its name to Cook Trotter and eventually moved to its current premises on Hornbeam Park.
Peter, who died in 2003, was a keen sportsman. A member of Harrogate Racquets Club, he was a former Chairman of Harrogate Golf Club and President of The Club on Victoria Avenue.
Business partner Gillian is a former Mayoress of Harrogate, Consort to the Chairman of North Yorkshire County Council in 2012/2013 and is Treasurer of Harrogate and District Soroptimist International.
Gillian attributes the success of Cook Trotter Ltd to retaining the values held by founder Peter Cook.
Gillian said:
Peter was such an affable gentleman who always went the extra mile for his clients.
Although we sadly lost Peter to cancer a number of years ago, we have tried to ensure that his values are retained. He would be delighted to see the business he founded in his spare room at home celebrate its 50th birthday.
Family, friends and clients of Cook Trotter Ltd are joining together on Friday 30 September to celebrate the 50th anniversary at a special celebration at Harrogate Cricket Club.
Cook Trotter’s team of staff have clocked up more than 100 years with the firm between them.
